verifiedUV™ (version 2) 365nM UV high output Led Strip 5 meters

Designed by Jon Cone. Exclusively manufactured for InkjetMall and built to the rigorous standards of Cone Editions Press.

Product Overview

While traditional exposure systems rely on hot, energy-hungry metal halide lamps or slow fluorescent tubes, LED technology offers unprecedented efficiency, instant ignition, and zero thermal warm-up.

verifiedUV™ Version 2 represents the absolute pinnacle of 365nm semiconductor engineering. By eliminating wasteful radiation above and below 365nm, 100% of the electrical energy is focused strictly into the exact narrow band required by alternative process chemistries.

  • Industry-Leading Output: Engineered to deliver class-leading 365nm photon density, maximizing raw irradiance while maintaining exceptional value per irradiance unit.

  • Up to 7,000 µW/cm² Irradiance: Measured using Ian Leake’s LC+6 integrator at a 4-inch height in a max-density 3mm grid. By comparison, a 3000W 240V industrial metal halide exposure unit (such as a NuArc FT32V) produces ~1,000 µW/cm², while standard high-output UV fluorescent boxes yield just 300–500 µW/cm².

  • Blistering Exposure Speeds: Exposes Platinum and Palladium prints in as little as 60 seconds when configured in a 3mm max-density array.

  • Pure 365nm Precision: Eliminates energy-wasting wavelengths above and below 365nm to drive maximum chemical reaction speed in alternative process emulsions.

  • Industrial-Grade Reliability: Heavy-duty 2835-sized emitters rated for a 50,000-hour operational lifespan.

  • Designed by Printmakers: Engineered and studio-tested by Cone Editions Press specifically for fine art alternative process photography.

Technical Specifications

  • Wavelength: Pure 365nm UV-A

  • Dimensions: 8mm wide × 5000mm long (5 Meters / 16.4 ft)

  • Emitter Density: 3 LEDs per inch (60 LEDs per meter / 300 LEDs per reel)

  • Cut Points: Every 1 inch (25mm)

  • Operating Voltage: 12.0V DC (Regulated under load)

  • Power Draw: Nominal 10W/m baseline; draws 14.5W–15W per meter (~1.25A/m at 12.0V) under full thermal steady-state load.

Fabrication & Integration Best Practices

1. Heat Dissipation & Mounting

Peel the adhesive backing and apply the strips directly to an aluminum sheet (1/8" thickness is ideal) to pull heat away from the board. For large exposure heads or exposure times exceeding 4 minutes, a dedicated cooling fan is recommended.

2. Power Supply Sizing (The 80% Rule)

Always size your 12V DC power supply using the continuous-load 80% rule based on a 15W / 1.25A per meter maximum draw:

  • 1 Reel (5M / 75W load): Use a 100W / 12V power supply minimum (e.g., Mean Well LRS-100-12 or LRS-200-12).

  • 2 Reels (10M / 150W load): Use a 200W / 12V power supply minimum (e.g., Mean Well LRS-200-12 or LRS-350-12).

  • 10 Reels (50M / 750W load): Use a 1000W / 12V industrial power supply setup.

3. Parallel Wiring Architecture

Always wire strips in parallel, never in continuous series. Connecting strips series-style causes heavy voltage drop, leaving the first strip significantly brighter than the last.

  • Run heavy-gauge wire (such as 12 AWG) from the power supply outputs to terminal distribution blocks inside the head.

  • Divide terminal blocks to match the multi-bank 12V output terminals on your power supply (e.g., Mean Well LRS series) to ensure near-zero resistance and identical, unthrottled voltage to every row.

4. Initial Thermal Stabilization (10-Minute Burn-In)

Newly installed LED arrays require an initial 10-minute break-in cycle under load. As internal silicone encapsulation and protective elements reach steady-state operating temperature for the first time, photoluminescent characteristics settle, and visual emitter appearance stabilizes into a uniform state. Always burn in new arrays for 10 minutes prior to fine-tuning exposure calibrations.

5. Understanding Optical Phenomena & Safety

Pure 365nm energy is virtually invisible to the human eye, causing unique physical reactions called photoluminescence:

  • Package Glow: Internal protective Zener components physically fluoresce under 365nm photon flux, causing a subtle yellow or pale-white glow inside the LED package. Minor cosmetic variations across factory splices have zero impact on 365nm UV output or print exposure uniformity.

  • Eye Safety: 365nm energy excites organic proteins in the human eye lens, creating a faint blue haze. Always operate within a light-tight enclosure or wear clear polycarbonate UV safety glasses (ANSI Z87.1), which absorb 99.9% of UV radiation and instantly eliminate eye-haze.

Grid Spacing & Platinum Exposure Guide

The 120-degree light dispersion allows strips to be spaced tightly for extreme speed or wider apart to reduce costs. At a target height of 3.5 - 6 inches, there are no light patterning issues across any of the following spacing configurations:

Strip SpacingDistance Between StripsApprox. Platinum Exposure Time
Max Density (3mm)Minimal spacing (using verifiedUV connectors)~60 Seconds
Medium-Tightly Spaced11mm apart~100 Seconds
Standard Spaced22mm apart~2.5 Minutes
Economy Spaced33mm apart~4.0 Minutes
